Background

STATERRA is seeking a consultant to prepare environmental impact assessment (EIA) in accordance with the National Centre for Environmental Compliance Executive Regulations, Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu Environmental Regulations, and Saudi Aramco Environmental Protection Standards, to assist the permitting team in measuring the environmental impact of its clients’ activities and projects.

Job Description

The consultant duties will include:

  1. Support the commercial team in the preparation of technical bids and proposals.
  2. Review the current environmental situation, ongoing environmental work, legislation, environmental objectives and environmental regulations and other institutional conditions applicable to the various projects that STATERRA is working on.
  3. Design and execute an EIA that:
    • Includes a baseline of the target areas and recommends indicators to measure impact.
    • Describes the current environmental situation, ongoing environmental work, legislation, environmental objectives and environmental regulations and other institutional conditions
    • Reports on applicable national and international laws and regulations to the projects.
    • Reports on points of departure, definitions, assumptions, effects, bases for valuations and uncertainties.
    • Provides reasons for the selection of focus or alternatives.
    • Describes the participatory processes and explains the standpoints adopted in issues that have arisen.
    • Identifies possible positive and/or negative environmental impacts of the projects.
    • Identifies gaps in knowledge that need to be evaluated before EIAs are started for the specific projects
    • Includes plans for the monitoring of environmental impacts. Indicators for monitoring
    • Includes plans for involving the local population, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders in monitoring and follow-up activities.
    • Proposes measures that will help to prevent or minimize environmental damage as well as optimize the project’s impact on sustainable development.

 

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in designing and executing an EIA that covers the legal, technical, and social aspects of program design and impact.
  • Developed assessment skills (e.g., data collection, data analysis, etc.).
  • Ability to work quickly and under a tight deadline.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of Saudi Arabia environmental law is an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Fluency in English, Arabic is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of international environmental standards is an advantage.
  • Knowledge on the use of one or more modelling software is an advantage.
