How Staterra helps KBR deliver the impossible sustainably
AMCDE – KBR is executing some seriously impressive projects in KSA in 2025. We recently showed them how Staterra can help them make those projects even more sustainable, and profitable. As a leading provider of environmental consulting services in the MENA region, we’re passionate about helping businesses like yours succeed.

Running complex engineering and construction projects in this part of the world is tough. You’ve got deadlines, budgets, demanding clients, and increasing scrutiny on environmental impact by the Regulatory Authorities. But at Staterra, we believe sustainability isn’t just a box to check; it’s a competitive advantage. We’re a team passionate about the environment and helping businesses like yours succeed.
Since 2016, we’ve been working with companies, particularly in the oil and gas, petrochemical, construction, infrastructure, land development, and rapidly growing data centre sectors, helping them navigate the complex world of environmental compliance and achieve real sustainability in Saudi Arabia through professional consulting. Whether it’s supporting the ambitious goals of the Saudi Green Initiative 2030 or conducting ecological surveys on behalf of NEOM to protect vulnerable species, we’re committed to driving positive change.
Regulatory framework
We understand the intricacies complying with environmental regulations. Our expertise spans multiple levels of environmental and social guidance, ensuring that our clients are fully compliant and prepared for any project phase.
We work within an environmental & social guidance multi-level framework that includes client-specific guidelines, such as those from Saudi Aramco (SAEPs/SAES), as well as broader regulatory standards set by Saudi Arabian authorities, like RCER 2015 Volume I compliance.
Additionally, we adhere to international guidelines from institutions like the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (Performance Standards I-VIII) and align with global principles such as the Equator Principles and the United Nations Sustainability Goals (Figure I below).
Our knowledge also extends to sector-specific guidance, including IPIECA for the oil and gas industry, and we ensure compliance with international standards.

Holistic approach
What sets us apart? We take a holistic approach. We don’t just simply focus on compliance; we look for opportunities to improve your bottom line. We understand the environmental challenges unique to your projects, from water scarcity, extreme temperatures to the need for strategic waste management in compliance with Saudi Circular Economy ambitions for 2030. We then develop tailored bespoke solutions that not only keep you compliant but also help you improve efficiency, reduce risk, and build a stronger reputation.
Environmental Engineering
At Staterra, we apply the key principles of environmental engineering to protect the natural environment. This involves integrating scientific and engineering disciplines which may include chemistry, biology, and civil engineering to identify, quantify, assess, and mitigate negative environmental impacts.
Our goal is to provide a robust and sustainable marine and terrestrial environment and to reduce or eliminate all negative impact to sensitive environmental and social receptors including flora and fauna as well as proximal local communities and stakeholders
Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)
Our expertise in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) is crucial for streamlining project approvals and ensuring overall project compliance. An EIA report typically includes a project description, justification, alternatives assessment, policy and legal framework, baseline conditions (air, soil, water, flora, fauna, and communities), impact assessment using the source-pathway-target receptor model approach. Finally utilising appropriate mitigation measures for risk reduction or elimination with follow up monitoring and reporting.

Conducting an EIA helps in early withdrawal of unsound proposals, assists in selecting the best alternatives, predicts and mitigates adverse project effects, and supports pre-FEED, FEED, and BED engineering development.
Practical example
Our recent work with Inma Steel, a steel fabricator in Jubail Industrial City, involved a comprehensive Environmental Baseline Survey. This included assessments of air quality (SO2, NOx, and particulate matter), noise levels, and soil and groundwater (nitrates (NO3) organic carbon, ammonia (NH4), and heavy metals – metalloids). Based on this data, we developed tailored mitigation strategies, including Best Available Techniques for emissions control and specific spill prevention measures and an Emergency Response Plan – ERP.
This work enabled Inma Steel to successfully navigate Saudi Arabia’s stringent environmental regulations and achieve their expansion goals.
Partnership approach
We partner with you on every aspect of sustainability. We can help you with everything from environmental impact assessments (EIAs) which streamline project approvals to waste management strategies which also reduce costs and minimise environmental impact. We know the ins and outs of both local and international regulations, including RCER 2015 Volume I for Saudi Arabia, so you don’t have to.
We believe that sustainability is a journey, not a destination. We’re here to help you every step of the way, from initial assessments to ongoing monitoring and reporting. We’ll help you identify opportunities for improvement, implement best practices, and demonstrate your commitment to environmental responsibility and due diligence.
So, if you’re ready to take your projects to the next level – a level where sustainability and success go hand in hand – let’s talk. We’re not just here to help you comply. We’re here to help you thrive.
