Webinar: Biodiversity & Renewable Energy in the Arabian Peninsula

Our very first webinar, “Living in Harmony with Nature: Wings, Winds & Global Connections in the Arabian Peninsula”, brought together experts to discuss biodiversity and renewable energy in the region.

The event was opened by Amer B. Alzubaidi, Founder and Managing Director of Staterra, who introduced the company’s vision of connecting a thriving economy with a healthy environment, emphasising the importance of dialogue, partnerships, and inspiring actions for conservation and sustainable development in the Arabian Peninsula. The session closed with a reminder about the pressing need for sustainable development and climate resilience.

In the following video, Laith El-Moghrabi, Technical Manager at Fieldfare Ecology, presented “Wings and Winds: Coexisting with Nature in the Age of Renewables.” He examined how renewable energy projects interact with migratory birds, outlining globally recognised mitigation measures and technological advancements. The talk emphasised that each wind farm faces distinct challenges and requires local solutions and adaptive management.

The closing remarks underscored the importance of ongoing learning and announced upcoming sessions that would further explore biodiversity in the region.

In the next session, “Global Issues for Living in Harmony with Nature, Arabian Peninsula Overview,” Dr. Benno Boer, Natural Science Specialist at UNESCO, offered insights into the Arabian Peninsula’s ecosystems. He focused on key flora, mangrove and seagrass restoration, and the importance of biosphere reserves.

Throughout his talk, Dr. Boer emphasised science-based decision-making, careful species selection, and the mentorship of young professionals in conservation. The presentation concluded with a call for ongoing participation, announcing that future webinars would continue to address regional conservation priorities.

The webinar concluded with a Q&A session that addressed pressing environmental questions, underscored the value of professional expertise, and reinforced the importance of maintaining balance in ecosystem management.

Participants shared practical recommendations for environmental projects, and the session ended with an invitation to join our upcoming webinars focused on biodiversity and waste remediation in the region.
