Balancing act: biodiversity assessment near Aramco operations in Abha.
Internationally significant biodiversity sat next to operations in Abha. Our specialist teams gave Aramco the data they needed to act on it.
Saudi Aramco operated near internationally significant biodiversity but lacked detailed understanding of the flora, fauna, and bat populations in the region. That knowledge gap prevented effective conservation measures aimed at preserving the area’s ecological balance.
The company needed to know what species inhabited the location — and how operational activity could affect them — before taking protective action.
We assembled specialist teams across distinct biodiversity disciplines, deploying trail cameras, Sherman traps, and bat detectors in the field, alongside dedicated software for bat-call analysis and species identification.
Methodology covered flora surveys, GPS-based habitat mapping, and fauna surveys using remote cameras, mammal traps, spotlight surveys, and direct observation of reptiles and vertebrates.
The team produced a comprehensive biodiversity report integrating field findings with historical data, supported by professional photography and conservation recommendations. Saudi Aramco walked away with the knowledge and tools to action a meaningful conservation plan.
